How do I get the message across to people?
As a volunteer for Action On Hearing Loss I feel that it is important to make the people around me, aware of the amazing work that this charity does.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, check out the following link here.
In the past, I have worked alongside this charity and delivered presentations to different organisations with a fellow volunteer. This was to educate the audience about the charity, technology advances for Deaf people and then speaking about my personal experiences.
I realised that my personal story was well received by the audience as it intrigued many people.
I now deliver deaf awareness presentations to different organisations on a variety of topics:
Providing staff training to support the needs of a Deaf student - I can deliver these in different education establishments from, primary school settings to universities! - Deaf people can achieve with the correct support provisions in place!
Raising awareness from a Deaf persons perspective- I speak about my deafness journey and my struggles and successes. There will be an opportunity for questions at the end.
Early Years/Key Stage 1 anti bullying presentation and quiz activity- Explaining to children at a young age to help them grow up understanding equality and diversity. We are all different!
Deaf awareness activities are included to help individuals understand the difficulties Deaf people can face, e.g. group scenarios.
Educating people in the workplace- This is to help reduce barriers in the work place, by educating employees and employers about the difficulties Deaf people face and tips to overcome these.
I am interested to speak in any establishment that may not be listed. I am always more than happy to adapt my presentations to suit my intended audience of different age ranges.
If you are interested in me delivering a presentation in your establishment. Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information.
I also welcome any suggestions you may have for me regarding my presentations!
